Fire kills two in Cox's Bazar

Among the two dead, one was a five-year-old child

Two people, including a child, have been killed in a fire incident in Chittagong.

The incident occurred in the district's Kotalati Light House area around 10:15pm on Saturday.

The deceased are Atiqur Rahman, 35, and Sadia, 5, daughter of Abdul Monaf. 

Meanwhile, Ekram Haseen, a firefighter, was also injured while trying to douse the blaze.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Cox's Bazar Fire Service Deputy Director Abdul Malek said: "A total two units of the fire service operated at the scene. The fire has been doused. We have recovered two bodies from the spot. Three houses were gutted by the fire.

"We are yet to find out the origin of the fire."

Quoting locals, fire service officials said: "We have heard that the fire was set intentionally due to a family conflict."

Cox's Bazar Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farid Uddin Khandakar said: "We have sent a team to the spot. 

"The bodies have been recovered and sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
