A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased was identified as Dudu Mia, 34. He was allegedly a yaba trader.

The incident occurred around 2am on Saturday in the Mondar Dail area of the upazila.

Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das said: “We were conducting an anti-drug raid. Realizing that the police were in the area, some yaba traders shot at us.

“We fired back in self-defense. At one point the yaba traders managed to get away. We discovered Dudu Mia’s body when we went back to search the area.”

The OC said they recovered five locally made firearms, 13 bullets, and 4,000 yaba pills from the scene.

The body of the deceased has been sent for an autopsy, he furthered.

“Dudu Mia was a marked criminal. There are six cases lodged against him in several police stations,” the OC added.
