Court has accepted eight days of remand for the five accused
The autopsy of 23-year-old nurse Shahinur Akter Tania has found evidence of both gang rape and murder.
Dr Sajib Ghosh of the Forensic Department at Kishoreganj General Hospital and Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Kishoreganj civil surgeon, jointly conducted the post mortem yesterday.
Meanwhile, the court yesterday accepted a request for the remand of five suspects accused of gang-raping and murdering Tania on a bus travelling from Dhaka to Kishoreganj.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Al Mamun accepted eight days of remand for the accused in response to a 10-day remand plea by the investigating officer of the case, Bajitpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarwar Jahan.
The accused are bus driver Nuruzzaman, his assistant Lalon Mia, Md Rafikul Islam Rafik, Md Khokon Mia, and Bokul Mia.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Giausuddin, the deceased's father, had filed a lawsuit in this regard with the Bajitpur Police Station.
The incident had occurred on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab Highway near the Gozaria Bilpara area around 10pm on Monday, following which police arrested the bus driver and his assistant in the early hours of Tuesday.
The victim’s uncle had initially filed a complaint which stated that on Monday evening, Tania boarded the Kishoreganj-bound Sharnalata Paribahan bus so that she could spend the first day of Ramadan with her family.
After all passengers got off on previous stops, some men gang-raped her, and pushed her off the running bus.
Soon after rescuing her, locals took the victim to the Katiadi Hospital in critical condition, where the on-duty physician declared her dead.
Tania was a nurse at the Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka.
