Evidence of rape was found primarily after a medical test
A first-grader has reportedly been raped by her neighbour at Paschim Kuptala Madhyapara village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila.
The victim is now undergoing treatment at Gaibandha Modern Hospital, said Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khan Mohammad Shahriar.
Police detained Ayub Khan, father of accused rapist, Shakil Mia,19, from the village on Monday night after a case was filed over the incident.
According to the case statement, the girl was sent to live with her paternal grandmother as a baby after her father's death.
She was only eight months old when her mother remarried, leaving her in the care of her grandmother in the village.
On Sunday evening, the girl went to Ayub's house to get a torchlight when Shakil was alone there.
Taking the chance, Shakil allegedly raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter, the case statement said.
Questioned by the grandmother after she fell sick, the girl narrated the incident to her. Later, she was taken to the local hospital.
Dr Tahera Akhter Moni, a junior consultant at the gynaecology department of Gaibandha Modern Hospital, said they primarily found evidence of rape after a medical test.
