Number of people taking shelters rose to 150,000 unofficially
Around 130,000 people took refuge in cyclone shelters in nine upazilas of Bagerhat, to escape destruction by cyclone Fani.

Bagerhat Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Md Jahirul Islam confirmed Dhaka Tribune, saying that, during the storm, around 130,000 people took shelter in nine Bagerhat upazilas. Among them, 45,000 in the coastal Sarankhola upazila, 26,000 in Mongla, 39,000 in Morrelganj, and 30,000 in Rampal.
He said, dry food is being distributed to the people staying in the cyclone shelters.
Bangladesh has been feeling the peripheral effect of the cyclonic storm since Friday morning. A number of villages and shoals in coastal districts have already been swamped.
Although there was no downpour during the night, the wind speed went up as the day progressed, leaving the sky cloudy and causing the rivers to swell.
Friday, around noon, Shaharun Begum, 50, wife of Mozahar Hawlader, of Ranajitpur village of Bagerhat Sadar upazila, was killed during the storm.
