6 people killed in road accidents in Dhamrai, Rajbari

The accidents occurred Saturday morning

Six people have been killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka, and Rajbari district.

In Dhaka, two people died after a pickup van lost control of its bearings and fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Aricha highway, in front of Bangladesh Betar in Cosmos area of Dhamrai.

The incident occurred Saturday morning. The deceased are pickup van driver, Mithu, 35, and Towhidul Islam Tushar, 27.

Dhamrai police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Dipak Chandra Saha, told Dhaka Tribune: "On Saturday morning, the Manikganj-bound pickup van – coming from Nabinagar of Savar – lost control in the Cosmos area and fell into a nearby ditch, killing the driver and the passenger."

Their bodies have been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka, the OC said. A case will be filed in connection with the incident.

In Rajbari, four people died, and 10 others were critically injured, in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Daulatdia-Kushtia highway near Ahladipur Jamai Pagol Majar Gate area, around 9:30am on Saturday.

The deceased are: Asma Khatun Dolly, 32, Rowshan Ali, 50, and two others whose identities have yet to be disclosed.

The injured are: Rabiul Islam, 26, Al-Amin, 25, Iqbal Hossain, 30, Golam Mohiuddin Khaja, 55, Abul Hossain, 57, and five others. They have been admitted to Rajbari Sadar Hospital.

Rajbari Fire Service and Civil Defence Team Leader, Abdul Halim, said: "Around 9:30am today [Saturday], a Green Bangla Paribahan bus, coming from Daualatdia and heading towards Jamuna Bridge, collided head-on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction near Ahladipur Jamai Pagol Majar Gate area.

"A team of Fire Service reached the spot as soon as we got the news," he said. "We found three bus passengers dead on the spot. The rest of the 11 injured people were taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital."

Rajbari Sadar Hospital Caretaker, Dr Dipak Kumar, said: "After the injured were brought to the emergency department, one woman, Asma Khatun Dolly, died in the hospital."

Swapan Kumar Majumdar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajbari Sadar police station, said: "The bodies have been sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy."

Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari, Md Shawkat Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Ashek Hossain, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md Saiduzzaman Khan, inspected the spot where the accident occurred.

Lawmaker of Rajbari 1 constituency, Kazi Keramat Ali, visited the injured in the Sadar Hospital and instructed the doctors to provide the best treatment.
