A suspected drug trader and a robber have been killed in separate "gunfights" in Mymensingh and Khulna districts, respectively.
The incidents occurred in Mymensingh's Nandail and Khulna's Dumuria upazilas on early Saturday, reports UNB.
In Mymensingh, a suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with detectives at Savar Bazar intersection area in Nandail upazila.
The deceased is Hazrat Ali, 45, son of Razzak Ali of the same area. He had been accused in several drug cases.
Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mymensingh Detective Branch of police, said: "Upon receiving information, a team of DB police conducted a drive around 1:30am on Saturday. Understanding the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing police to fire back, triggering the gunfight."
After the shootout, police rescued the bullet-injured Ali and took him to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead, he said.
Police also recovered 300 grams of heroin, 200 yaba pills, and three cartridges from the spot, the OC added.
In Khulna, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 6, in Thukra area of Dumuria upazila.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Saiful Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Dumuria police station, said: "A gang of robbers swooped in a house in Thukra area, around 1:30am, while the RAB team was patrolling the area. Hearing screams of the residents, the RAB team rushed to the spot and the robbers opened fire, triggering a gunfight."
After the gunfight, law enforcers recovered the body of a robber from the spot while the other gang members fled, the SI added.
