9 killed in road accidents in 5 districts

The accidents occurred on Thursday

At least nine people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Bagerhat, Rajshahi, Lakshmipur, Jamalpur and Savar on Thursday. 

In Lakshmipur, a man was killed and three others injured, when a truck hit a standby CNG auto-rickshaw in the Temuhoni area of Lakshmipur town yesterday morning. 

The deceased, Dukhu Mia, was the auto-rickshaw's driver. 

Police and locals rescued the injured to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared Dukhu Mia dead.

Police seized the truck and the CNG auto-rickshaw, but the truck driver and helper fled.

In Bagerhat, three human haulier passengers were killed and five others injured, when the haulier collided head-on with a truck on the Khulna-Mongla Highway around 8am.

The deceased including Shohag, 35, and Sanjit, 45, died on the spot 

Police sent the bodies to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue, but are yet to impound the truck. The injured have been admitted to Jhanjhania Hospital in Rampal.

In Rajshahi, three people were killed and 12 others injured, when a bus overturned at the Mirganj Bazar in the Bagha upazila, around 7am.

The deceased Abu Hanif, 28, the bus helper, Manwara Begum, 42, and Badal Bewa, 65, died on the spot.

Bagha police station OC Mohsin Ali said, the Rajshahi-bound bus collided head-on with a human haulier (Nasimon) and turned turtle.

The bodies were sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In Savar, a readymade garment worker was killed near her factory after a bus ran her over while she was going to work in the morning.

The deceased Nurjahan, 24, died on the spot.

The accident took place near the Ulail area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway around 8:30am, said Nurul Haq, sub-inspector of Savar Model police station.

Police recovered the body and seized the bus, but the driver and his helper fled.

In Jamalpur, a man was killed and four others injured when a CNG rammed into an auto-rickshaw on the Jamalpur-Dewanganj road in Melandah upazila.

The deceased Saiful Islam, 65 died on the spot. 

Melandah police station OC Abdul Majid said: “Police recovered the body of the deceased and rescued the injured to Islampur Upazila Health Complex.”
