The girl's father filed a case against the accused on 23 April
A man named Jamal Sheikh, 35, has been arrested for raping a female fourth grader from Bhanga upazila, Faridpur district.
The incident took place in Khanjapur village, Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district around 6am, April 19.
The arrestee, Jamal, is a three-wheeler driver; and son of Raju of the same area.
Acting Company Commander of RAB 8, Madaripur camp, Debashish Karmakar said: "The victim girl was picking garlic from a nearby garlic field. There, her neighbor—the accused Jamal—forced himself on her and raped the girl in the field around 6am on April 19. When the girl came home, sick after the assault, her family took her to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
"On April 23, the girl's father filed a case against Jamal. Acting on the case we conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jamal [on Monday] at the house of one of his relatives. We are going to hand him over to Muksudpur police station."
Officer-in-Charge of Muksudpur police station, Kamal Pasha, confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune and said: "We are looking into the matter. Medical check-ups of the victim girl have been done."
