Prime accused in Kurigram gang rape remanded

Another accused confessed to the incident under section 164

Ranju, prime accused in the gang rape of a married woman in Kurigram, has been remanded for three days.

Kurigram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge, Paban Chandra Barman, on Monday, passed the order granting three day remand against Ranju.

On April 25, another accused in the gang rape case, boatman Jel Haque, gave his confession on the incident under section 164.

Investigating Officer (IO) in this case Inspector Md Raju Sarker said: "The other two accused are still on run. Our team is trying its best to arrest them."

 On April 24, four members of a family came from Tangail to Chilmari in Kurigram in search of their relative. Ranju and his associates offered help to the family, and took them to a char in a boat.

In a planned manner, they separated the woman from rest of her family, and gang raped her by giving death threats. 

The next day the woman made a 999 call for help, police rescued and sent her to hospital.

On the same day police arrested Ranju and Jel Haque on the basis of information given by the victim.

Later, a case was filed against them, by the victim, with Chilmari police station.
