The suspected attacker and Shomapti's mother-in-law, Geeta Mondol, is currently on the run
A mother and her six-month-old daughter have been burnt in an acid attack in Rajoir upazila's Shatpar village in Madaripur.
The duo—21-year-old housewife Shomapti and her daughter, Snigdha—were admitted to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) on Monday for treatment.
The suspected attacker and Shomapti's mother-in-law, Geeta Mondol, is currently on the run.
According to law enforcement sources, following a family dispute on Sunday night, Geeta poured acid on her daughter-in-law and granddaughter while they were sleeping.
Both victims were later rescued and first sent to Rajoir Hospital, and then to the FMCH for better treatment.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Shomapti's husband Milton Mondol said: "I am currently at the Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment of my family members. I do not want to make any comments regarding my mother."
Rajoir Hospital Doctor Hamida Akhter said that on Monday, a woman and her child were admitted to the hospital.
"We sent them to FMCH for better treatment," she added.
Rajoir Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahjahan said policemen had rushed to the spot after receiving a complaint about the acid attack.
"We have also come to know that Milton's mother, Geeta Mondol, is the attacker. We are trying to apprehend her," he stated.
