Maritime ports have been asked to keep hoisting distant warning signal no 2 as cyclonic storm “Fani” brewing over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas moved towards the north-northwest.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone centre was about 62 kph, rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls.

The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre, said the bulletin.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay and deep sea have been advised to proceed with caution till further notice.

Rain or thunder showers, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind, is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, with hail at isolated places. The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, the forecast said.

A mild heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the regions of Barishal, Patuakhali and Faridpur, and it may continue.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
