1 killed, 8 hurt in Narail villagers' clash

The clash broke out over establishment of supremacy in the area

A person has been killed and eight others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Narail over establishing supremacy in the area.

The incident occurred in Sarol village under Lohagara upazila around 7am on Sunday.

The deceased is Mohammad Lipu Sheikh, 41, son of Marfut Sheikh of Sarole village.  

Locals said the incumbent member of Dighalia union (Ward 5) Ashraful Alam had a long-standing dispute with former member Khokon Sheikh. 

In the past three days, the situation escalated where both of their supporters have been fuming over establishing supremacy in the area.

On Sunday morning, Lipu Sheikh, a supporter of Khokon Sheikh, was attacked by rivals when he came to a bazaar in Sarole village. The attack triggered a violent clash between villagers that left eight injured. 

Lipu was allegedly hacked by rival men. He died after being taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition. The injured are being treated an Narail and Lohagara sadar hospitals. 

Narail's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP, Sadar and Lohagara circle) Md Sharafuddin said: ”The situation is under control now. However, additional police personnel have been deployed in the area following the clash.”
