Two incidents of rape reported in Barguna, Panchagarh

The rape incidents took place on Wednesday, cases were filed, but no one has been arrested so far

A case was filed after a woman was raped, reportedly by local men, in Amtoli upazila of Barguna district. 

The incident occurred around 8:30pm on Wednesday.

Kalapara police station OC, Monirul Islam, said: “The woman’s husband filed a case with Kalapara police station on Thursday, accusing four men of the rape, namely Rasel, Rafiq, Khalek, and Mannan. 

“The woman is currently undergoing medical tests at Kalapara Upazila Health Complex.” 

According to the case statement, the newlywed woman and her husband live in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali. They went to visit relatives in Amtoli upazila of Barguna district on Wednesday. On that night, local men Rasel, Rafiq, Khalek, and Mannan, broke into the newlyweds’ room. They abducted the woman and raped her in an empty lot beside the house.     

Meanwhile, another case was filed after a 19-year-old girl was raped, reportedly by a local man in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh.

According to the case statement, on Wednesday, a local man named Md Shahin raped her, finding her alone at an NGO loan repayment centre in the area.

Debiganj police station Sub-Inspector, Sujit Kumar Kundu, said: “The girl filed a case with the police Wednesday night. Her medical tests were completed at Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital on Thursday.”

“Police are trying to arrest the accused, who is currently on the run from the law,” he added.
