One of the girls committed suicide after the assault
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Ratan Minji, the main accused in the gang rape of two indigenous schoolgirls in Rangpur.
RAB 13 confirmed the matter in a press briefing around 11:30am on Friday.
RAB 13 Captain, Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mojammel Haque said: “On April 18, the two girls, hailing from the Khoddo Nurpur village of the Mithapukur upazila, were lured over the phone by acquaintance Ratan, to meet him at the Mahigonj area in Rangpur City.
“Ratan, an indigenous himself, along with his two friends Mamun and Hazrat had previously set a trap for them. When the girls arrived, they were gang raped and given life threats if anything was disclosed.”
Following the incident, one of the girls committed suicide, leaving behind a suicide note. Later, the other girl disclosed the whole incident.
On April 23, elder sister of one of the girls filed a case against the three with the Mithapukur police station.
In a drive, RAB arrested Ratan from Savar in Dhaka. He had his head shaven to hide his identity.
The other rapist Mamun was arrested on Thursday night from Rangpur city, informed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mizanur Rahman, of the Rangpur police station.
“We are conducting a drive to arrest Hazrat,” said the ASP.
Hazrat is the son of Fozlar Rahman, hailing from the Narayanpur village of the Pirgacha upazila.
