‘Police are trying to arrest the accused UP chairman, who is currently on the run from law’
A farmer was shot dead, allegedly by a union parishad (UP) chairman over land disputes, in Kuttamra area under Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur on Thursday.
The deceased Idris Ali, 26, after being shot, succumbed to his injuries at Nalitabari Upazila Hospital around 2pm.
Nalitabari police station OC Md Abul Khayer said: “Police arrested four individuals in this connection. Meanwhile, a case is being filed with the police station.”
“Police are trying to arrest the accused UP chairman, who is currently on the run from law.”
According to witnesses, Jogania Union Parishad Chairman Habibur Rahman was in a dispute with a local named Sorhab Ali, over ownership of a plot of land.
Their supporters clashed around 9am on Thursday. At one stage, Habibur opened fire, hitting Idris' throat, while another youth Rubel Mia also sustained bullet injuries.
They were taken to Nalitabari Upazila Hospital, where Idris died while undergoing treatment.
