Police arrested a man accused in a case filed for raping an eight-year-old third-grader in the Gabtoli upazila of Bogra.
The accused, Ujjal Mia, 30, a local van driver was arrested on Tuesday.
Gabtoli police station OC Jakir Hossain Molla said: “The girl’s father with the help of police filed a case on Monday, based on which Ujjal was arrested.”
“He was sent to jail following a court hearing Tuesday afternoon.”
The girl was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for medical tests after which her statement was recorded before a senior judicial magistrate court under Section 22 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, he added.
According to the case statement, on Friday, Ujjal abducted the girl to an under-construction building and raped her.
Her parents reached the building, looking for the child and rescued her, by which time Ujjal fled.
Previously, Ujjal raped the girl in two separate occasions and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
Ujjal, having political influence in the area, prevented the girl’s family from filing a case.
