RAB arrested the accused when police failed to catch him after the filing of a case
A show-cause notice has been served on the OC (Investigation) of Sreemangal police station while a sub-inspector (SI) has been closed for their negligence to arrest the accused in a case filed over the rape of a sixth grader girl.
Moulvibazar’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Shahjalal on Sunday took the action against OC Inspector Sohel Rana and SI Delwar Hossain as they did not take proper step even after the filing of the case.
Delwar, also the case investigation officer, was closed to the Moulvibazar Police Lines, he said.
However, Delwar claimed they did not do any less to catch the perpetrator.
The 12-year-old victim — a sixth grader at Abdul Gafur High School — is currently undergoing treatment at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.
On April 16, Munna Ahmed, 18, reportedly raped the girl when she was alone at her house at Beltali village under Sindurkhan union in Sreemangal upazila.
Two days after the incident, the victim’s father filed a case. But police failed to arrest the accused.
However, a Rapid Action Battalion 9 team from Sreemangal camp, led by ASP Qamruzzaman, arrested Munna from Sarkar Bazar area at Bhunabir union and handed him over to Sreemangal police last Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, a Moulvibazar court sent Munna to jail after police produced him before it.
