The RCC mayor demands immediate action against the policeman

The Kotwali police station OC in Rangpur has been accused of sexually harassing a woman councillor of the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC).

The councillor alleged that she was verbally abused when she visited the police station on Friday night following an emergency.

She alleged that Kotwali police OC Rezaul Karim Reza reportedly made inappropriate comments about her physique, which left her feeling insulted.

She notified RCC Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and the other councillors about the incident on Sunday.

Later, at least 25 councillors and the mayor met the Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abul Alim and filed a written complaint against OC Reza.

Mostafizar said: “If an OC behaves with a councillor like this, it is easy to assume how he behaves with common people.”

“Hopefully, the commissioner will take immediate action against him following a proper investigation.”

OC Reza was unavailable for comments.

Kotwali police OC (Investigation) Mokhtarur Rahman said an investigation would have to be conducted into the allegations levelled by the woman councillor.

Last month, a Lalmonirhat man had also alleged that he was physically and mentally tortured by OC Reza at the Kotwali police station in January, before he was forced to sign off his car, hand over Tk50,000 in cash, and Tk250,000 in cheque to the owner of Dhaka-based Computer Solutions Ltd. The man was also allegedly forced to sign several non-judicial bonds.
