The suspects were caught in two different drives; a local court has placed four on remand
In two separate drives, Tangail police arrested eight individuals suspected to be involved with illegal drug trade on Sunday.
Four of the suspects were arrested in Mohera union under Mirzapur upazila, and the four others, including a prison guard, were caught in Kalitati upazila.
In Mirzapur, police arrested Liton Mia, 33, Ripon Mia, 27, Sharif Mia, 33, and Nuru Mia.
Police also found 12 yaba pills and 8g of heroin in their possession, local police said.
Among the arrested, Ripon and Sharif are accused in cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Confirming the matter, Mirzapur police station OC AKM Mizanul Haque: “We conducted the raid following a tip-off, and caught the quartet with the illegal substances.”
A Tangail court sent them to jail after they were produced before the court.
In Kalihati, four people including a prison guard were arrested on the Bangabandhu Bridge with 101 bottles of phensedyl in their possession.
The arrestees are Bagerhat prison guard Raju, Sahabul Islam, Anwar Parvez and Farhad Parvez, all from Kushtia.
Bangabandhu East police station OC Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The OC said: “We conducted a raid following a tip-off, and caught them on the Bangabandhu Bridge while they were on their way to Dhaka in a private car.”
Police produced them before Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court and asked for remand on Sunday.
Judge Naurin Abdullah placed the accused on remand for three days.
