Four others, injured in the incident, have been admitted to hospital
Two garment workers were burned to death in an explosion, believed to have been caused by a gas pipeline leak, at a residence in Narayanganj.
The incident occurred in Bhulta area of Rupgani upazila early on Monday.
The deceased are Shamim, 30, son of Dudu Mia, from Meherpur district; and Helal Biswas Rakib, 25, son of Rahim Biswas, from Jhalakathi district. Both of them worked at Next Accessories Limited.
Abdul Mannan, in-charge of Rupganj Fire Service and Civil Defence said: "The explosion took place around 3:15am.
"Rescued by the locals, the six critically-injured victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared the duo dead," he added.
The four others injured are: Tariqul Islam, 30; Liakat Ali, 40; Hazrat Ali, 32; and Arifur Rahman, 42. Of them, Tariqul's condition is critical.
Abdul Mannan added: "The original source of the explosion has not been determined, but it was probably from a gas leak as factories were closed for Shab-e-Barat holiday and the gas pressure was high."
A wall of the three-storey house was blown up in the blast and the building was declared to be at risk.
Rafiqul Haque, officer in-charge (OC) of Bhulta police station said: "The dead bodies have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
"Higher authorities have been informed and next steps will be taken following their orders," he added.
A group of around 10-to-12 garment workers used to live on the ground floor of the house owned by Rabeya Akhter Mili, a lawyer and Narsingdi resident.
