College girl killed for rejecting boy in Gazipur

The accused was caught red handed, was given a beating by  mob and handed over to police

A college student has been killed for rejecting a proposal from a boy in Gazipur.

The incident took place at the Konabari in Gazipur on Wednesday.

The deceased was Sharmin Akhter Liza, 18, student of Konabari Cambridge College and the daughter of Shafiqul Islam of the Ambag Eidgah area.

The accused 17 year old boy was caught red handed, was given a beating by the mob and handed over to the police.

According to police, locals and Sharmin’s brother Sujan, Sharmin was going back home after her exams. On the way, the boy stopped her and proposed to her, when she rejected, the boy got angry and stabbed her.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the scene gave the boy a beating and took Sharimn to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital and later she was taken to Uttara Medical College Hospital where she was pronounced dead by duty doctors.

Police went to the scene and the boy was handed over to them.

Sharmin’s brother Sujan said: “The boy used to disturb his sister all the time, when she used to go to college. He also threatened Sharmin several times.”

Konabari police station OC Emdad Hossain said: “The deceased has a few stab wounds on her body, the knife was seized. The boy was detained and being questioned now.

“The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College morgue for an autopsy. Legal action is already in process to be taken.”
