At least 39 girl children have been raped in the last 15 days, according to humanitarian organization, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF).
In total, 47 girl children were raped or sexually harassed, or assaulted, between April 2 and April 16, MJF said in a press release on Wednesday.
The organization compiled the data analyzing news reports from six national dailies, and expressed deep concern, urging the government to take effective measures to stop violence against children.
The release said the situation was becoming unbearable with “lack of justice” and a rise in the number of rape and sexual assaults of women and children, the trauma of which affects them physically, mentally, and socially, in both the short term and long term.
MJF Executive Director, Shahin Anam, said the government must take immediate effective action to bring the situation under control.
The organization also demanded exemplary punishment of those responsible for the murder of Feni madrasa student, Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
