He was involved in the killing of eight election officials

Joint Forces have arrested one of the accused in the Baghaichari killing, during a raid in Rangamati.

The arrestee Ranjit Chakma, 35, was arrested with an ultramodern LG rifle around 9pm on Saturday.

Police sources said based on a tip-off, Ranjit was arrested from Jhum house of a rubber garden in Bandarban Sadar upazila.

After initial interrogation, he was handed over Bandarban police station.

Bandarban Sadar police station OC Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter and said: “A case was filed against him under the Arms Act. He was involved in the killings of election officials during the Baghaichari upazila parishad election on March 18.”

On March 18, while returning to the Upazila Headquarters with election materials, the vehicles the election officials came under attack which left eight dead and 18 injured.

Security forces conducted drives in three districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts, over the exptemist attack.
