Assistant director of Jamalpur General Hospital suspended for a week
The Health Ministry has instituted a probe committee to look into possible negligence contributing to the death of noted journalist Shafiq Zaman Lebu.
State Minister for Health Dr Murad Hasan issued the instruction during a views exchange with the district administration, health officials, police and journalists at the Jamalpur Circuit House on Sunday evening.
The four-member committee, led by Health Directorate's Mymensingh Division Director Dr Abu Kashem, will submit a probe report within April 21.
Assistant Director of Jamalpur General Hospital Dr Sirajul Islam was suspended for a week. Civil Surgeon Dr Gautam Roy will take on his duties.
Lebu, the president of Jamalpur Press Club and a correspondent for several national news outlets including the Dhaka Tribune, passed away at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) late Friday night. He was 55 years old.
He had severe chest pain on Friday morning and was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital around 10am.
The state minister said there was clear initial evidence of negligence in Lebu's treatment.
The committee has also been asked to look into all other irregularities and mismanagement at Jamalpur General Hospital.
