Moksud Alam was arrested on Thursday night
A team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested a Feni Awami League leader at a hotel in Dhaka, in connection with the murder of Sonagazi Madrasa student, Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Moksud Alam, councillor of Sonagazi municipality and acting general secretary of Feni Awami League, was arrested around 10pm on Thursday night, said Additional Superintendent of Feni police (ASP) Mohammad Maniruzzaman, reports UNB.
Moksud is also a member of the governing body of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa.
The ASP said: "Acting on a tip-off, a PBI team conducted a drive at the hotel around 10pm, and arrested Moksud."
Nusrat lost her battle for life on Wednesday night, five days after she was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital burn unit, with 80% burn injuries.
She was set on fire on April 6—right before her Alim examination—on the madrasa's rooftop, by four masked individuals, reported to be supporters of madrasa principal Md Sirajuddaula. She had previously lodged a case against him, accusing him of attempting to rape her.
Till now, police have arrested ten people in connection with the attack, including the madrasa's principal.
