The victim is 26 years old
Five days since a teenage girl was set on fire, culprits have poured kerosene on a youth and attempted to set him on fire in Sonagazi of Feni.
This time, the victim is 26-year-old Abu Saleh Mim, from Charganesh. The attack occurred in the same area, on Wednesday night.
He has been sent to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for treatment, Feni Sadar Hospital doctor, ABM Obaidullah, confirmed.
According to Sub-Inspector of Feni Sadar Hospital police outpost, Jasim Uddin, Mim left his house to go to a nearby deserted alley, after receiving an anonymous call, on Wednesday night.
As soon as he reached the place, a group of seven-to-eight masked men ambushed Mim, and tried to set him on fire after pouring kerosene on him.
Before they could light a fire, Mim's cries for help attracted locals, who rushed to the scene, forcing the perpetrators to flee.
Feni Sadar Hospital doctor said: "Mim contracted a respiratory infection after the kerosene was poured down his throat. After providing initial treatment, we sent him to CMCH for further treatment."
Mim's brother-in-law, Md Sabuj, said: "We do not know who could have done this. We cannot even determine the identities of the ones who called Mim, as they [the attackers] took his phone away."
Sonagazi Model police station Inspector (investigation), Kamal Uddin, has said legal actions will be taken once someone files a written complaint.
On Wednesday, Sonagazi Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi died from grievous burn injuries, after four masked individuals set her on fire on the madrasa's rooftop on Sunday.
The perpetrators are reported supporters of Sonagazi Madrasa principal Md Sirajuddaula - against whom Nusrat's family had lodged a sexual harassment case on March 27, accusing him of attempting to rape her.
The incident has sparked massive outrage across the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at Nusrat's death, and ordered for stern actions to be taken against the attackers.
