‘Robbery gang ringleader’ killed in Kishoreganj ‘gunfight’

A suspected ringleader of a robbery gang has been killed in a reported gunfight with police, on Chandpur Bridge in Bhairab upazila.

The deceased is Mahram Ali, 32, of Kalipur Village in the upazila.

Officer in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, Mokhlesur Rahman said:"Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive in the area around 2 am [on Wednesday]. A gang of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery in the area. Upon seeing law enforcement, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

"At one point, police arrested Mahram, who had been shot, and took him to Bhairab upazila health complex where the doctors declared him dead."

Three policemen including Sub-inspector Jahangir Alam were also injured in the gunfight.

Mahram was wanted in several cases including some for robbery and drugs.

An LG gun, five cartridges, two sharp weapons, 25 bottles of Phensidyl and 100 yaba pills were recovered from the spot.
