‘The nurse on duty administered medicine to the patient and within 30 minutes he passed away’
A former ward councillor died after being given wrong treatment at the Kalihati Upazila Health Complex in Tangail, Tuesday morning.
The deceased Rahiz Uddin Chandur, 53, was a former ward 2 councillor of the Kalihati municipality.
After the incident, enraged relatives and locals vandalized the nurse’s room in the male ward of the hospital.
Police, after being informed, came and took control of the situation after one and a half hours and convinced victim’s family to collect the body and leave the hospital.
Victim’s family and locals claim that, the former councillor was given the wrong treatment, which led to his death.
Regarding the incident, Kalihati Upazila Health and Family Planning Official Dr Kazi Forhadul Hoque said: “On Tuesday morning, the patient came to the hospital with a chest pain. The on-call physician Dr Rashedul Alam prescribed necessary treatment and admitted the patient to the male ward.
“The nurse on duty administered medicine to the patient and within 30 minutes he passed away.”
“However, to our knowledge we did not administer any wrong treatment.”
