Accused Jobayer Ahmed was arrested in the Tulatoli area of Sonagazi
Another suspect, named in a case filed by the family of a female madrasa student who was set on fire by unknown assailants in Feni, has been arrested.
On a tip-off, police arrested the accused—Jobayer Ahmed from the Tulatoli area of Sonagazi—in the early hours of Wednesday.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Sonagazi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Uddin said: “Police is interrogating Umme Sultana Poppy, who is the niece of madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Dawla and the victim’s classmate, about the attack.”
On April 6, a female madrasa student suffered 85% burns when she was set on fire by unknown assailants on the roof of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit, under the supervision of an eight-member medical board. She was put on life support on Monday morning after her condition deteriorated.
Her family says the girl was set on fire by supporters of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal, Sirajuddaula—on the institute’s roof Saturday morning—for previously lodging a rape attempt case against him.
Till Monday, police have arrested six people for their suspected involvement in the attack.
