Police have arrested seven suspects in connection with the incident

Allegedly, a 14-year-old minor was forced to marry her rapist, to cover up an incident of rape and abuse in Narayanganj.

The victim’s mother filed a case in this regard, under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, with Fatullah model police station on Monday. Police have arrested seven suspects, including the alleged rapist, in connection with the incident.

The arrestees are: alleged rapist Nasir Mia, 25; Firoze Alom, 45; Khorshed Alom, 45; Anwar Hossain, 45; Monir Hossain, 46; and Arifur Rahman, 35; Jubair, 23. This was confirmed by Fatullah model police station Inspector Mujibur Rahman.

According to police and case documents, a minor girl, 14, was raped by Nasir Mia, a tenant of the same building, on Sunday. After the incident became public knowledge, a certain influential quarter put pressure on the victim’s family to marry the girl off to Nasir.

The girl was then reportedly forced to marry Nasir Mia the same night. Police, on a tip-off, arrived at the scene and arrested six suspects.

Inspector Mujibur Rahman added: “Police have launched an investigation regarding the matter. The victim was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for a physical examination. We cannot comment further until we have the doctor’s report.”
