Three farmers and a sandstone lifter were killed by lightning strikes
At least four people were killed by lightning strikes on Tuesday in the Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
In Sylhet, three farmers were killed by a lightning strike at the Dhamria Haor of the Terakuri and North Kushiara villages in the Fenchuganj upazila.
The deceased were identified as Jitu Mia, 38, of the Terakuri village in the Fenchuganj upazila, Rajon Mia, 28, and Anwar Hossain, 42, of the Lakshmipasha village in the Gopalganj upazila.
The lightning struck the farmers around 11am while they were working in the field, killing them on the spot, Fenchuganj police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Alim told the Dhaka Tribune.
In Dowra Bazar of Sunamganj, a sandstone lifter was killed, and two injured by a lightning strike.
The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain, 27, of Sonapur village of Narsingpur union.
Meanwhile, Asab Uddin, 25, of the same village and Alamgir Hossain, 29, of Bhojna village, were injured in the incident.
They were on a boat, lifting sandstone from the Chela River, when lighting struck.
Police and locals said that Ali Hossain and the injured were rushed to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Dowra Bazar police station Officer-in-Charge Sushil Ranjan Das said, "Lightning struck them when they were on their way to lift sandstone."
