The kidnappers demanded Tk3 lakh in ransom or threatened to kill her

A teenager girl, abducted for ransom from Anantaram Shenpara village in Gaibanda upazila of Rangpur on March 27, was rescued from Konabari of Gazipur on Monday.

A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-1) team also arrested Asaduzzaman alias Raju, 21, son of Rafiqul Islam of Damgacha village in Gaibandha, in this connection.

Lt Commander Abdullah Al-Mamun, special company commander of RAB-1, said   the girl was kidnapped on March 27 when she went to her grandfather’s house in Gaibandha.

The day after the abduction, the kidnappers demanded Tk3 lakh in ransom from the girl’s father over the phone, and threatened to kill his daughter unless he paid the ransom money, said the RAB official.

Following the ransom demand, the girl’s father filed a general diary with Pirgacha police station.

Later, using a mobile tracker, RAB found the kidnappers were in the Banglabazar area of Joydebpur in Gazipur district.

A team of the RAB elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Raju on Sunday.

“On information from Raju, RAB rescued the girl on Monday,” said Lt Commander Abdullah Al-Mamun.
