The shops reopened after three hours of shutdown

Almost all pharmaceutical shops in Rajshahi city was shut for three hours on Sunday morning in protest against the detention of an employee of one of the shops.

Hundreds of pharmacies in the city's Lakshmipur and Sahebbazar areas were shut around 11am.

The strike started after police detained Shaheen, an employee of Star Medical Hall, for allegedly selling sex stimulating drugs.

Pharmacy owners called off the strike around 1:30pm and reopened the shops after police released Shaheen.

The brief strike, however, caused sufferings to numerous patients and their relatives.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ifteqhaer Alam confirmed that Star Medical Hall salesman Shaheen was detained and brought to Boalia police station for allegedly selling sex stimulating drugs. Pharmacy owners closed their shops protesting the incident, he said.

“But the salesman has been released after questioning,” he added.
