The minister is also leading a nine-member Bangladesh delegation
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar left for Switzerland on Sunday to join the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).
He is expected to chair the follow-up forum of WSIS 2019, one of the most prestigious UN-sponsored summits on information, communication and, in broad terms, the information society, reports BSS.
This year for the first time ever, Bangladesh is being honoured with this position since the establishment of the forum, said a ministry release.
The five-day forum will start from April 8 in Geneva. Ministers from different countries and representatives of government, non-government and international organizations are expected to participate in the summit.
Mustafa Jabbar is also leading a nine-member Bangladesh delegation. The minister is expected to return home by April 14.
The delegation comprises of State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Information and Communication Division Secretary N M Ziaul Alam, BTRC Chairman Jahurul Haque, Posts and Telecommunications Division Deputy Secretary Urmy Tamanna, the minister's private secretary, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, BTRC Director (SS) Lt Col Mohammad Azizur Rahman, BIMEE-Dhaka Co-founder Bijoy Jabbar, and Project Director of Amader Gram ICC for Development Reza Selim.
