Update : 07 Apr 2019, 12:35 AM

Nine days after the cessation of the students’ protest claiming the dismissal of the vice-chancellor (VC), Barisal University will restart on Sunday.

The decision was made at a meeting at the Barisal Circuit House among the district administration, teachers and students of Barisal University.

The Registrar of Barisal University, Dr Hasinur Rahman said all the academic activities would begin on Sunday and the residential halls were set to open on Saturday evening at 7, reported UNB.

State Minister for Water Resources, Zahid Faruk said the university administration consented to meet students’ demand of 22-points.

He said: “At the meeting, the Vice-chancellor of Barisal University, Professor SM Imamul Haque was urged to take leave and the Prime Minister will take further decision.”

Authorities shut the university down for an uncertain period of time on March 28 in the midst of students’ protest demanding the dismissal of the VC for his offensive comment.

The VC had been alleged to tag the students as ‘breeds of Razakar’.
