Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the accused in a case filed over the rape of a sixth-grader in Chapainawabganj.
RAB 5 members, in a drive, arrested Shahjahan Badsha—son of Ekramul Haque of Telkupi area in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj—in Sonadanga village of Sapahar upazila in Naogaon, around 8am on Friday.
The matter was disclosed at a press briefing in RAB 5's Chapainawabganj office on Friday at noon.
At the press briefing, RAB 5 Camp Captain Squadron Leader Sayed Abdullah Al Murad said: "Shahjahan, who is an office clerk of Telkupi High School, had been raping a sixth-grade student of the school for long time. The victim is a classmate of Shahjahan's son."
"When Shahjahan raped her the very first time, in 2013, he captured the act with a cell phone camera. Later he blackmailed her, threatening to expose the video footage in public, and continued to rape her."
"When the matter came to light, locals and relatives of the victim staged a demonstration and human chain on March 18 demanding punishment for the accused. The victim's brother also filed a case with Shibganj police station on the same day — that triggered Shahjahan to go into hiding," he added.
In the initial interrogation, accused Shahjahan confessed to the crime, the RAB official added.
