A suspected drug dealer was killed in an alleged gunfight with the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Gazipur.
Jahangir Alam, 28, was killed in the Bhabanipur area of Kashimpur upazila at around 2:30am on Monday, local sources confirmed.
The deceased was a resident of Sardaganj in Kashimpur.
Md Monjur Hossain, Additional Police Commissioner in Gazipur, said a team of detectives conducted a drive in the area on Monday on a tip-off.
Sensing the presence of law enforcement officials, a group of drug traders opened fire on them from an old house in the area, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight, the DB official said.

Kashimpur police station OC, Akbar Ali said, police confiscated 300 yaba pills from Jahangir’s pockets. The detectives also seized 10kg of marijuana and a firearm from the scene.
The OC added, Jahangir had a total of eight cases against him, six of which were narcotics cases.
Jahangir's aunt, Shurja Bala said some people in white uniforms picked up Jahangir from home on March 26. We haven't lodged a General Diary (GD). We heard news of his death in a gunfight on Monday.
