The body of one of the victims, who drowned when a trawler capsized in the Meghna River on Sunday, was recovered early Monday morning.
The body of Rita Akhter, an Ansar member, was found floating in the Meghna in the Gazaria area, Munshiganj around 6am on Monday.
Two more passengers of the trawler, a bank official and a policeman, still remain missing. A team of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Narayanganj are conducting a search in river for the duo.
The trawler capsized in the river during a storm around 7:30pm on Sunday in the Charhogla area in Narayanganj, locals said.
The vessel was carrying 19 people who were returning from the Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj after performing their election duties at the Charhogla Government Primary School polling centre, during the fourth phase of the ongoing upazila parishad elections.
Among them, 16 people managed to swim ashore.
The missing individuals are Town Sub-Inspector (TSI) of police Md Selim, and Borhan Uddin, manager of the Meghna branch of United Commercial Bank Ltd, who was the presiding officer at the polling centre.
Rita was from the Barachapa village in the Monohardi upazila, Narsingdi.
Locals found her body floating in the river and informed the local officials of Bangladesh Coast Guard, Second Lt M Mamtajul Asif, station commander of the coast guard’s Pagla unit in Narayanganj, told the Dhaka Tribune.
The coast guard then handed the body over to the local station of the Bangladesh River Police, he added.
Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid said their search operation in the Meghna would continue until the missing individuals are found.
