Two women, a child and five men are among the deceased
At least eight people have been killed and 20 injured as a passenger bus and a microbus collided head-on in Lohagara upazila of Chittagong district.
Two women, a child and five men are among the deceased. Of them six were identified as Hasina Momtaj, 45, her daughter Taslima Akhter, 20, her granddaughter Sadia, 2, Nurul Huda, 25, Afjal Hossain Sohel, 30 and Md Sayem, 22. All of them were passengers of the microbus.
According to Lohagara police and highway police, the accident took place on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway in the upazila’s Chunati area around 12:30am on Thursday.
Confirming the matter, In-Charge of Chunati police outpost Alamgir Hossain, said: “Eight people were killed on the spot after a Cox's Bazar-bound Relax Paribahan bus collided with the Chittagong-bound microbus.”
Meanwhile, Saidul Islam, In-Charge of Chiringa highway police outpost, Cox's Bazar told the Dhaka Tribune: “The driver of the bus and his assistant managed to flee the spot soon after the collision.
“The death toll might rise. He said police and Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel had gone to the spot and recovered the bodies.”
The injured have been sent to different hospitals. The highway police have impounded the bus and the microbus.
