The accused reportedly threatened to ruin the marriage of the victim

A beauty parlour owner in Manikganj has been arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for allegedly blackmailing a woman after taking objectionable photos of her.

The accused, Biplab Khan, 37, owner of Boikshakhi Beauty Parlour, was arrested from Doulatpur upazila on Tuesday night and produced before a Manikganj court on Wednesday.

Doulatpur police station OC Sunil Karmaker said: “The victim filed the case against Biplab under the Digital Security Act on Tuesday.”

He said that Biplab had become a family friend of the victim, whose husband is a Saudi Arabian expat, some time ago as their daughters were friends. Biplab apparently took photos of the victim in different occasions they had met.

The OC said: “When Biplab heard that the victim’s husband was returning home, he demanded the victim to get into an extramarital affair with him or he would show those photos to her husband and ruin their marriage.”

Police arrested the man on Tuesday night hours after the woman filed the case.
