In Kushtia, a female college student was killed when a train hit her at Poradaho Railway Station in Mirpur upazila of the district in the afternoon
At least three people were killed in separate train accidents in Tangail and Kushtia districts on Saturday.
Our Tangail correspondent Abdullah Al Numan said two people were killed when a train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Rasulpur area of Sadar upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased were Rekha Talukder],40, wife of Demulesh Talukder, and the CNG driver, whose name could not be known.
According to police sources, the family members of Demulesh were going by auto-rickshaw to Rasulpur to attend a function. As the three wheeler was crossing the Rasulpur Rail crossing, a Dhaka bound train hit the vehicle, leaving its driver and Rekha dead on the spot. Two, including a child, also got injured in the accident. They were admitted to Tangail General Hospital in critical condition.
Jalal Uddin, Gharinda Railway Station master in Tangail, confirmed the incident.
In Kushtia, a female college student was killed when a train hit her at Poradaho Railway Station in Mirpur upazila of the district in the afternoon, said our correspondent, Kudrat-e-Khoda Sabuj.
The deceased was identified as Akashi Khatun, 18, daughter of Amir Hossain of Kalinathpur of Poradaho Union council in the upazila. She was an honors student at Kushtia Govt College.
Poradaho Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md Solaiman Hossain Molla, said a Tungipara Express train hit Akashi, leaving her critically injured at the station as she was crossing around 3pm.
Locals rescued her in a critical condition and admitted her to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared her dead, said the OC.
