30 injured in Habiganj post-polls clash

The hour-long clash ensued based on a derogatory remark on Facebook

At least 30 men and women were injured during a clash between two political factions, in the Bahubal upazila in Habiganj, just two days after the upazila parishad election.

In the hour-long altercation on Tuesday, 20 people received critical injuries and were admitted to the Bahubal Upazila Health Complex, the rest were given first-aid.

According to police and local sources, after a derogatory remark was made about Awami League candidate Abdul Hai on Facebook, from the profile of Awami League rebel candidate Abdur Kadir, the UP Juba League Chairman Tobarak Ali retaliated, which led to the supporters of two groups engage in the hour-long clash.

Bahubal police station OC Masuk Ali confirmed the matter and said: “After being informed, the police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.”
