The siblings were fighting over land distribution, police said
Police arrested a man in Satkhira on Monday for stabbing his younger brother to death.
The incident took place around 12pm during a dispute over land distribution, at Protapnagar village in the district’s Assasuni upazila, police told the Dhaka Tribune.
Witnesses said Ahmed Ali Sarder, a resident of Protapnagar, held a meeting with his three sons and five daughters on Monday morning to discuss the distribution his lands among his children.
The dialogue soon became heated between his elder son, Aminur Rahman, 45, and his younger son, Anwarul Islam, 30. At one point, Anwar took out a knife and made to stab Aminur. Aminur promptly snatched the knife away and stabbed Anwar several times, killing him on the spot.
Inspector (investigation) Azizul Islam of Assasuni police station said police went to the spot upon receiving information and arrested Aminur for committing fratricide.
They also collected Anwar’s body to send it to Satkhira General Hospital for an autopsy, the inspector further added.
