8 JUST students suspended for drug abuse

They have been suspended from the hall for six months

Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) have suspended eight students for drug abuse. The students are from four different departments of the university.

JUST Public Relations Officer Abdur Rashid said the decision was made during a provost body meeting on Saturday evening.

The disciplinary measures were taken after reviewing an investigation report prepared by the university's probe committee on the matter, he added. 

The suspended students are- Tanvir Mahmud Foysal, Tanim Ahmed, and Md Akhteruzzaman Apon from the EEE department, KM Shahed from the English department, Md Ikhtiar from the IPE department, and Debayan Das Joy, Abhik Majumder and Niloy Chandra Mandal from the BME department. 

Five of the students, who are residents of the Shaheed Moshiur Rahman Hall, have been suspended from the hall for six months. The three others, who are nonresidents, have been fined in addition to being suspended.      

According to the investigation report, a provost team led by hall provost Md Amzad Hossain conducted a routine inspection and found four students smoking marijuana in room 412 on February 12. 

On the next day, the team found various accessories for inhaling marijuana in room 110. They also received complaints that some students in that room would play loud music at night

Later, a probe committee was formed to investigate the incident, and the committee recommended temporary action against the eight students.
