The duo had been abducted a month ago from Dimla upazila in Nilphamari
A month after they were abducted in Nilphamari district, police have rescued a woman and her five-year-old child in Ashulia, Dhaka.
Md Mofiz Uddin Sheikh, OC at Nilphamari’s Dimla police station, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
Police said a group of five men, led by Shahinur Rahman, 33, who is from Dakkhin Goyabari village under Goyabari union in Dimla upazila, allegedly abducted Mukta Rani Roy, 25, and her five-year-old son from their house in Kakina Chapani village under Khalisha Chapani union on January 27.
The abductors demanded ransom from Mukta’s husband, Jibon Roy, who did not report the abduction to police fearing for their safety.
However, unable to meeting their ransom demand, he filed a case with Dimla police about a month later, the OC said.
Dimla police promptly started looking into the matter. Following a tip-off, Dimla police station OC (investigation) Sohel Rana and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ali, who is the investigation officer in the case, conducted a search in Ashulia, Dhaka and found the mother-son duo on Tuesday.
The abductors fled the scene during the rescue mission, police said.
Dimla OC Mofiz Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune that they were working to arrest the accused.
