The suspects will be sent to court after a case is officially filed, police said
Police have arrested five men for their suspected involvement in the rape of a woman in Goalibari area under Shimulia union in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
The accused – Jafar Kazi, 22; Nazmul Hossain, 20; Shahidul Islam, 44; Raham Ali, 20; and Amir Hossain, 32 – are all residents of Goalibari. They were all arrested on Tuesday.
According to rape survivor’s family, the woman was abducted by a group of seven men at around 8:30pm on Monday, while she was on her way home.
The men then forcibly took her to a deserted place nearby, where they took turns to rape her, before leaving her there.
Her father filed a written complaint with Ashulia police station later on Monday night.
Acting on the complaint, Ashulia police conducted a drive in the area Tuesday morning and arrested the five suspects.
The woman was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical examination and treatment, Sub-Inspector Fazikul Islam of Ashulia police station said.
“The filing of a case in this regard is under process. Once it is filed, the accused will be produced before a court,” the sub-inspector added.
