Teacher accused of student abuse in Sirajganj

A teacher of Sristy Central School and College in Sirajganj has been accused of physically abusing a student to an extent to which he needed to be hospitalized.

The accused Aminul Islam, a biology teacher at the institution allegedly physically abused his student for not turning in his homework.

The victim Nahid Hasan Hira, a tenth grader student previously had hip joint issues was unable to bear the beatings and fainted.

The victim was immediately admitted to the Avicenna Hospital in the city by other teachers to undergo medical treatment.

The on-duty doctor Aminul Islam said: “The boy had previous strains in his hip joints, which made the matter worse. He is now out of danger but requires psychological counselling due to the traumatic incident.”

The victim’s father Rafiqul Islam filed the complaint with the institution claiming that this was serious offense and the teacher was wrong to deal out such harsh punishment.

The victim Nahid said: “The teacher used to frequently beat his students. On Tuesday, he became angry for not getting the due homework and physically punished me along with four others students in the same manner.”

Parents and guardians gathered at the institution on Tuesday but the accused teacher was nowhere to be found.  

However, its Principal SM Golam Kibria said to them: “The teachers and I were aware of the incident and we immediately took the student to the hospital. His parents have placed their complaint and the teacher has understood his mistake and is in remorse.”

Regarding the matter, District Education Officer Md Shafiullah said: “We became aware of the incident through the media and are also looking into matter.”
