Police suspect that the victims has been, illegally, transferring gas from one cylinder to another
Seven people have been burned in a gas cylinder blast in Khagrachhari.
The blast occurred around 4:30am, on Tuesday, at a retail gas cylinder shop in Khabangpuria area of Khagrachhari Sadar.
Locals and members of the Fire Service rescued the injured and sent them to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital.
Four of the victims were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The victims have been identified as: Bhuban Bikash Chakma, Abdul Hamid, Md Jamir, Mahmud Ullah, Newton Chakma, Mahiranjan Chakma, and Minati Chakma.
According to local, and police, sources, the blast occurred when the empty cylinders were being refilled.
An investigation is underway in this case.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune Khagrachhari Fire Service Station Officer Abdul Kader said: "We saw mattresses and cardboard on fire upon reaching the scene.
"We sprayed water [on it] to ensure that the fire did not spread and also to prevent an explosion."
Khagrachhari Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sahadat Hossain Tito added: "The possibility that gas was being transferred, illegally, from one cylinder to another, is being investigated. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation."
