In an effort to raise awareness about preserving immature ilish, or "Jatka", and boosting production of the country's national fish, "Jatka Conservation Week 2019" will be held from March 10-16 in 37 ilish inhabited areas.

A naval rally presided over by the State Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Ashraf Ali, will take place after the official inauguration of the conservation week at Charfassion in Bhola.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Task Force Committee for Ilish Preservation at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Monday.

The weeklong program will include video shows and broadcasts on television and radio to build awareness.

Law enforcement authorities will conduct drives at fish markets to stop catching, trading, and marketing of Jatka.

Secretary to the fisheries and livestock ministry, senior officials of the ministry, and the taskforce, were also present at the meeting.
